New Delhi: The advent of technology has changed the discourse of every sector including political affairs. Political analytics say that the attribution of social media was significant in the unprecedented emergence of Narendra Modi in General Election 2014.
On the same line, Modi’s arch rival Congress president Rahul Gandhi too adopted the same tech strategy. The recent victory of Congress under the leadership of Gandhi in 3 states- Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh indicates that the grand old party used the technology as an important poll-tool during the campaign.
Congress workers said that their party was using a mobile application (App) called ‘Shakti’ for internal communication. Gandhi too accepted that he took referendum from his lakhs of party workers to pick the names of Chief Ministers in 3 victorious states. Until now, as many as 7.8 lakhs workers enrolled themselves on Shakti platform and the deadline for the registration has been extended till 31st December. Clearly, the app played decisive role in the selection of CMs’ name.
Through the Shakti app, which was devised by the data analytics wing of the party, every common partyman is connected with the party president.
The man behind the idea of an ‘app’ for the party was Praveen Chakraborty- a member data analytics department. Chakraborty, who is a former investment banker, synchronized the data of party in the app. The app enabled partymen to make booth-level management. In Rajasthan, Congress launched the “Mera booth, Mera gaurav (my booth, my pride)”. With the help of ‘Shakti’ campaign reached to every Congress worker and subsequently, they delivered in the royal sate.
