Facebook testing new TikTok-like feature that shows short videos in news feed

Social Media giant Facebook has now begun testing a new TikTok clone which has started showing short videos in its news feed section. It has been testing a short-video feed with TikTok-like swipe up in the main app and as per a report, it has been confirmed it was testing the new short-video format in the app in India.

Earlier this year, Facebook announced it was shutting down Lasso — its answer to China’s TikTok that it had quietly launched last year.

As per a report in Tech Crunch, Facebook said it always tests new creative tools so it can learn about how people want to express themselves. It has been a fact now that short-form videos are extremely popular and hence, the social media is looking at new ways to provide this experience for people to connect, create as well as share on Facebook.

The feature was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra who tweeted: “INTERESTING! it’s also testing a ‘short videos’ feed with TikTok-like swipe up in its main app. This appears to be in addition to Instagram Reels. h/t @roneetm”

Ever since TikTok has run into controversies, major tech giants, including Facebook have all rolled out short videos on their own platforms. Facebook-owned Lasso was available in the US, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ecuador, and Uruguay, but it was taken down quietly.
