Video calling apps have been finding a lot of traction in the recent times, but then Zoom has been finding the going tough owing to its privacy and security loopholes and this has given all the competition a chance to work on their own privacy and beef up a number of key features.

Google has already introduced a major update to its Duo video calling platform. While it already uses AI to reduce audio interruptions, Duo has added a new codec to improve the video quality. This is called AV1, and it will aim to make the video quality better even in low bandwidth, but during this the connection will be stable.

What is the new code?

The AV1 Codec is made by Alliance for Open Media, and this is an industry-wide consortium. It is a successor to VP9 and can produce high data compression rates, which then leads to far better video quality. As per Google, this feature will be available on all Duo calls starting today.

Apart from this new feature, the company has also introduced the ability to take a photo together on smartphones, tablets and Chromebooks, and then, share it with everyone on the call. Moving forward, the users will be able to do this on group calls and on more devices.

So, here is how you have to do – all you need to tap the More icon and go to the Settings Menu > tap on Call settings > turn on Duo Moments.

Also, the number of participants has been increased for a video call. As compared to earlier – when the limit was up to eight people, now it has been increased to 12 participants.

Google has also announced that soon Duo users will get the option to automatically save messages instead of them expiring after 24 hours.
