One of the most-used features of Google is the Google Maps and it is used world over not just for locating new landmarks, but also for navigating through unknown and crowded territories. The service has now added new features which will make navigation much easier when it comes to combating disasters and crisis situations.
Google Maps has been trying to build the SOS Alerts feature for quite some time now and it will add visual information during a crisis and natural disasters. Also, it will provide guidance as far as navigation is concerned during such a crisis.
In a new blog post, Google has informed about these detailed improvements in Maps and Search which are aimed at assisting users to get through environmental disasters safely. These will also include detailed visualisations of disasters such as hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes. Also, sinceit can also forecast natural disasters such as hurricanes, cyclones, and floods – the map will now come up with notifications which will allow users to plan how to act.
Also, the information will be shared giving a detailed explanation of impacted areas during disasters such as earthquakes and flash floods as well. In addition, Google has described how the information can be used in India and other countries which are more prone to floods due to strong rainfall in the monsoon season.
Google will be rolling out the aforementioned feature in maps with relevant information on flood forecasts and the expected impact in different areas near the rivers. The blog also informed that navigation will see improvement later in the year which will allow Google Maps to come up with alerts during a disaster.
Also, navigation will help you get away from the route which is affected as compared to the standard navigation which exists currently. Flood visualisations are expected to be introduced in Patna to start with, followed by the Ganga and Brahmaputra River regions.

I love this update. As with the weather changes, most of the country is being affected by Cyclones. First Fani and now cyclone Vayu in Gujrat. This is going to save so many lives.
