WhatsApp has recently introduced dark mode for all its users on Android and iOS. Dark mode was one major feature for WhatsApp but the platform has been working on plenty more features. One of these has been the long-awaited “delete messages” feature which is essentially self-destructing messages.
There’s a new update on WhatsApp beta where the delete messages feature is highlighted. Now, this feature is not available for public beta on WhatsApp so users will not see it yet, WABetaInfo notes. The app has been working on self-destructing messages which could be called delete messages as per a number of leaks.
There is the latest WhatsApp beta update which shows the delete messages feature for individual chats. Earlier, it was only available for group chats. Now, essentially what this feature does is that it automatically deletes messages based on the time duration selected by the user. It gives the users time duration options for 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month and 1 year.
Now, depending on the option picked up by the user, messages will be start disappearing from the chat after that allotted timeframe. It will continue till the time the user turns the feature off. The same feature is available for group chats as well but here only the admin can use the delete messages feature.
This self-destructing of messages is not an entirely novel concept and most of the messaging apps already have this feature. The different apps like Telegram, Signal and Snapchat offer disappearing messages. However, it has been a trend with WhatsApp that it will introduce features much later than its competitors. Hence, we will have to wait for a bit more before the official rollout of this feature.
