WhatsApp to stop working on many phones: Should you be worried?

In order to offer its users the best experience, WhatsApp keeps on rolling out new features and hence, developers keep this in mind. While building new features on newer platforms, WhatsApp tends to be incompatible on several obsolete ones. Now, as we reach the end of 2019, WhatsApp official support page says that it is going to drop support for a couple of older platforms which could well mean that it will not work on few phones.

Well, you do not need to panic. As things stand right now, WhatsApp will drop support for one obsolete OS platform and stop supporting older versions of Android and iOS. Recently, Microsoft stopped its support for Windows Phone and WhatsApp announced shortly after that all Windows Phone devices won’t support WhatsApp starting January 1, 2020. So, hence, if you are still using Windows Phone device, you will not be able to use WhatsApp on your phone.

This will be same with some older Android and iOS devices. All the Android devices which are running on Android 2.3.7 and older will not be compatible with WhatsApp from February 1, 2020. Also, all the iPhones which run on iOS 8 and older will not support WhatsApp anymore. Well, so if you are using any phone that’s running these versions of Android and iOS, there will be no WhatsApp support anymore.

Do you need to worry? Well, you should not. Most users upgrade their phones every two years and if you have indeed done so, your phone must be running on Android 8.0 Oreo, and hence, you will keep receiving support from WhatsApp. Now as far as devices running on iOS 8, you will have to be on an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S minimum to keep using WhatsApp on these as these phones got the iOS 9 as its last OS upgrade.
