WhatsApp has released a latest update and as per this, all the Android phones which are currently running on Android 2.3.7 operating system and iPhones running on iOS7 will not extend support to the world’s most popular messaging app, from February 1, 2020.
This can be deciphered by the FAQ section of WhatsApp, as all the users of these Android phones and iPhones will no longer be able to create new accounts. Also they will not be able to verify any existing accounts.
Also, the company notes that users with very old Android phones and iPhones will be the only ones who will be affected this. Hence, because of the fact that people change their phones quite often, users need not be too worried about these latest updates.
As per a tweet by WABetainfo, WhatsApp will also no longer offer any support to devices running on iOS8 or lower. However, they can still use WhatsApp on iOS 8 but they will not be able to verify the account if they reinstall it. Also, the iOS 8 compatibility will be fully removed on February 1, 2020.
The messaging platform has been adding new features in order to stay relevant and these new features require powerful phones and newer Android and iOS versions to function properly. Also, there are different features which require powerful phones with enough RAM and newer OS.
These features include playing videos directly inside the chat window, and fingerprint authentications among others. WhatsApp has already informed that few phones will not be compatible to support the feature that it plans to bring in future and owing to this, it will be ending the support for them.
