Mi all set to launch laptops in India in June

Reddy also said that the notebooks will be suitable for students, professionals, as well as casual
gamers.

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Mi is slated to enter the laptop ecosystem in India. It will be the first time Xiaomi
will be offering laptops in the country although, this will through the Mi sub-brand. The expansion of
portfolio comes on the heels of Xiaomi’s decision to split Mi and Redmi as sub-brands also make
Poco an independent brand.

Raghu Reddy, Chief Business Officer, Xiaomi India told Hindustan Times that the company had been
working on the new portfolio for a while now and that Mi’s new laptops will offer a slim form factor
which will also be lightweight. These notebooks will offer great services to the younger generation,
especially between the age groups of 18 and 35.

“With Mi notebooks, you will get a minimalistic but elegant design, at the same time, it will be
loaded with the technology that will make it worthwhile for all the power users out there,” Raghu
said.

Reddy also said that the notebooks will be suitable for students, professionals, as well as casual
gamers. The company further plans to target productivity-focused users and content creators.
Ahead of the official launch, Mi has been dropping a lot of teasers to get the audience all worked up
about the new portfolio on social media.

However, the path will not be without bumps along the way as the Indian laptop market is currently
dominated by long-time players which includes HP and Dell. Mi’s foray comes at a time when the
firms have been forced to ask employees to work from home in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.
Reddy also said that they are planning to cut through the clutter in the laptop segment and make the
choice easy for the users who have to scuttle between multiple variants for the same model. “We’ll
bring very few SKUs to help simplify things for end-users,” he added.
