Apple in its support page has put out a detailed explainer on how the camera can damage the MacBook’s display.
Often users cover their laptop’s camera over privacy fears. However, if they are using a MacBook, you might want to rethink this as Apple has issued a warning to the users and have advised them not to close their MacBooks with a camera cover.
Apple in its support page has put out a detailed explainer on how the camera can damage the MacBook’s display. There are many ways of covering your laptop’s camera. One can put a tape on it or even use stickers. However, there are special camera covers which are designed specifically for laptops. These are small camera covers with a sliding mechanism. They’re very tiny and may seem innocuous but Apple has strict warnings over it.
What has Apple said
“If you close your Mac notebook with a camera cover installed, you might damage your display because the clearance between the display and keyboard is designed to very tight tolerances,” Apple explains in its support page.
Apple also adds that if the camera is covered it can also lead to several other problems like automatic brightness and True Tone not working. Apple MacBooks have an indicator light which alerts that camera is active and since, Apple says the camera is engineered it will never turn on without the indicator light. There is another option to check which allows apps on MacBook to gain access to the camera.
Apple has also come with different sets of suggestions for MacBook users who are required to attach a camera cover. The first one is to preferably use a camera cover which is smaller than 0.1mm. If it’s thicker than this then the best option is to take out the camera before closing the laptop. Also, there is strict no for any types of tapes or stickers.
