Xiaomi has been using the MIX series to keep coming with new innovations and have earning a lot of praise from users all over. Last year, it released the Mi MIX Alpha in which there was no side bezels and extended the display to the rear of the phone. Now, after the reviews, Xiaomi could well aim to make the design far more practical.
As per a recent report by 91Mobiles, there is a new smartphone patent in the works from Xiaomi. If the released images are anything to go by, the new phone looks very similar to the MIX Alpha concept but there is slight tweak.
The MIX Alpha had its display wrap around the edges and extend all over the rear panel which left a tiny strip of the ceramic panel which had the camera packed as well as other sensors. The patent too shows a similar-looking phone with the display wrapping both the edges but then it does not extend all the way across the rear panel.
There is the display curve around the edge but it stops as soon as it reaches the rear surface. Hence, there is a lot of vacant space at the back which is different from the MIX Alpha concept and that leaves Xiaomi to place a dual camera setup mounted centrally, which is similar to a normal phone. The entire phone has a design where it appears to rest on the non-display part when it is placed on a solid surface. This is probably to keep the display from scratching or damaging.
The patent also reveals a little more than just the display. As opposed to the MIX Alpha concept, this new phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top while the bottom side of the phone has a USB-C port for charging as well as wired data transfer.
