Samsung Galaxy Watch Active review: Good buy, extremely viable package

This model has been launched with a price tag of Rs 19,990 in India

Samsung has finally launched the Galaxy Watch Active and this is the company’s most affordable offering in its smartwatch category. It has been released with a sporty design and also runs on Samsung’s One UI.

This model has been launched with a price tag of Rs 19,990 in India. It has been released in four colours – black, green, gold and silver. However, there is a basic difference when this one is pitted against the previous Galaxy Watch and Gear models – the latest model has a plain strap and does not have a rotating bezel.

As far as the design is concerned, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active has a simple design. It does not have any unique feature and, hence, does not stand out like the previous Galaxy Watch models. However, it is very comfortable to wear and fits perfectly even on small wrists.

The 1.1-inch AMOLED display is extremely good and can even be compared with a smartphone. The display is bright, clear and crisp and, hence, the AMOLED is an absolute delight. The screen is also extremely responsive and reacts to every movement.

The two buttons are placed on the side of the watch and are extremely easy to access – one button helps to go back and the other on to power the device on or off. This makes navigation extremely easy. Also, there are a number of pre-installed features on the watch which include activity results, exercise tabs, stress meter, heart rate, weather and calendar. All of these features can be added as shortcuts and widgets.

The user can type and respond directly to messages. However, if you are a new user, typing on a small screen will take some time, but once acquainted, it will be an absolute breeze. The smart replies are a big help to quickly respond to messages. Also, one can answer or reject calls, and can also call people directly from the watch. However, you cannot talk directly through it.

It is a very good gadget for everyday use and while there can be improvements made to the battery life, overall it is an extremely good package.
