Instagram admits that technical bug is the reason behind drop in follower count

The Company has said that it is trying to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

Instagram users were left surprised recently when they observed a drastic drop in their follower count. Everyone thought that the reason behind the sudden drop in the follower count was because Instagram must have decided to come down strongly on fake followers.

However, the company has clarified that the drop in follower count has happened due to a bug. It has also said that it is trying to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

The app took to Twitter and said that the bug had affected the accounts of some Instagram users. “We’re aware of an issue that is causing a change in account follower numbers for some people right now. We’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible,” the company said in an official statement.

According to reports, a number of Instagram users had reported having lost as many as 4,000 followers because of the bug. Some celebrity users, including Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande, also complained of losing millions of followers.

Social apps like Instagram carry routine clean-ups during which inactive and fake accounts are deleted from the app but this time, Instagram has agreed that the users have faced a drop in their follower count because of a glitch which the company is hopeful of fixing soon.

The company had in November last year, said that it will remove fake likes, followers and comments from the app using its machine learning tools. The reason behind, such fake likes and comments are accounts which make use of third-party apps to spam other users.

Earlier this week, microblogging social media website Twitter had faced a similar issue when users had complained about the number of there retweets and likes getting affected. Twitter users had complaint of having issues with notifications, like and retweets which the company is said to be fixing.

So those of you, who have been worrying about losing your follower count on Instagram, take it easy. Once the bug is fixed, all your original followers would show up again.
