It seems as of the honeymoon period is slowly coming to an end for Internet users in India. The largest telecom operator in India, Reliance Jio has proposed to TRAI that wireless data prices are gradually increased to Rs 20 per GB from the current rate of Rs 15 per GB after six to nine months.
Jio has advocated TRAI’s intervention to determine floor price for wireless data service. They also said that voice tariff should continue under forbearance as before as it could have an effect on how the masses use the service.
Jio has also said that an Indian consumer always keeps an eye on the price and hence, floor price should be implemented in 2-3 tranches in order to reduce the impact of increase in tariff.
It further said once all the data floor price is rolled out, it will be uniformly implemented across all tariffs and will also be applicable to all the different segments — individuals and corporates.
The Mukesh Ambani company also informed that the data floor price should also cover the bundled tariffs and it will also come with a number of clearly defined elements.
It should be mentioned here that Reliance Jio will still continue to come with the cheapest tariff plans in the country as far as the 4G data speeds are concerned even after the increase in prices. We inform you here that it charges its customers 60 paise per minute for calls to other networks, which the other companies like Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea do not.
