Twitter bug behind decreasing number of likes and retweets, company assures of resolving the issue

The microblogging platform has acknowledged that some of its users have been facing problems with regards to their notifications, likes, and retweets on Twitter over the last few weeks.

After a number of Twitter users were said to have complained about experiencing a sudden decrease in the number of likes and retweets , the company has taken note of the issue and said that it is trying to resolve the problem.

The official Twitter support handle of the company has posted a tweet apologizing for the inconvenience caused. “Some people around the world are experiencing an issue with notifications, Likes, and Retweets. We are working on resolving this and will follow up soon. We apologize for the inconvenience,” the company tweeted.

A lot of Twitter users from India have also been addressing their grievances regarding the issue. Many Indian users have posted short videos and screenshots of their tweet responses, to depict that their likes and retweet numbers would drastically reduce with time if the issue continued.

The company is also facing flak from Indians for being aligned to a particular political ideology and being supportive of the right-wing ahead of the general elections due in May.

Recently, a Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology has passed a resolution in which it has unanimously stated that they would not meet any junior Twitter officials and asked senior members or CEO Jack Dorsey to appear before it.

A team of representatives from Twitter also met the parliamentary committee in the parliament after they were called by the committee through an official letter for discussing issues concerning the use of the social media platform. Members of Twitter India were also present during the meeting.

According to sources, the official letter sent to Twitter by the Parliamentary Committee had specifically stated that the Head of the Organization should appear before the Committee. It also said that the head may be accompanied by representatives from the company.

The meeting has come at a time when the country is all set for its general elections and there is a growing concern about safeguarding data privacy of people and election interference through social media platforms.

In a startling revelation, Twitter, had for the first time, revealed the number of users who compose and read tweets on the site every day just a few weeks ago. In its earnings report, the company had mentioned that the website has 126 million daily active users.
