After WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram gets Vanish Mode

Vanish Mode

WhatsApp has started rolling out the latest feature which is called Disappearing Messages. This feature works exactly as it is named and soon after, Facebook is also releasing similar features on the Messenger app and as well as the photo-sharing app Instagram.

A statement was released in which it was stated, “Sometimes a message is just spontaneous – something you want to say at the moment without worrying about it sticking around. That’s why we’re excited to introduce vanish mode on Messenger, which lets you send messages that disappear automatically. How it works is simple – messages disappear after they’re seen and you leave the chat.

To turn it on, swipe up on your mobile device in an existing chat thread and you’re in vanish mode. Swipe up again and you’re back to your regular chat. That’s it!

Now that it has been activated, you will be able to send memes, GIFs, stickers or reactions which will allow you to share what you want to and what you are thinking when words might not be enough. And, hey, at the same time, you can also be quite silly with your friends.

We designed vanish mode with safety and choice in mind, so you control your experience. Only people you’re connected to can use vanish mode with you in a chat. Vanish mode is also opt-in, so you choose whether to enter vanish mode with someone. If someone takes a screenshot of your chat while you’re using vanish mode, you’ll be notified. And as always, you can block someone and report a conversation if you feel unsafe.”

A similar feature is being rolled out to Messenger and Instagram as well and it will soon become available in the US and select countries. Vanish Mode on Instagram will also arrive soon. “We’re slowly rolling out vanish mode on Messenger and Instagram. Vanish mode is now available on Messenger in the US and a handful of other countries, and it’s coming soon to more places. Vanish mode on Instagram will be coming to the US and other countries soon when you update to the new Messenger experience.”
